AAWARN — Asbestos Awareness

This program is designed for workers who may be exposed to the hazards of asbestos. This includes construction workers who are involved in the construction of new buildings or the demolition or renovation or repair of old buildings; maintenance and custodial workers in buildings such as schools, offices, and hospitals; and auto mechanics repairing brakes or clutches. The program focuses on the types and characteristics of asbestos fibres, how workers are exposed to asbestos, and the occupations at risk of exposure. The program also covers the routes of transmission and the health effects. Legislation is another important area covered in the program as well as a discussion on assessing asbestos hazards and methods of control. Participants will also learn strategies for implementing an effective action plan to identify, assess and control asbestos hazards in their workplace.

ROUGH — Rough Terrain Forklift Operator

This program is for workers required to operate rough terrain forklifts often used on construction projects, landscaping and other outdoor job sites. Rough terrain forklifts are class 7 forklifts as per Canadian Standards Association Standard B335. Participants explore the proper selection, design and operation of these vehicles with special attention paid to load capacity and stability. Specific safety measures including pre-start inspections, overhead guards, ergonomic design considerations, hydraulic safety, restricted view awareness and personal protective equipment are discussed. Legislation, regulations and standards related to the operation and maintenance rough terrain forklifts are identified and discussed. Participants will also explore important training requirements and the legal obligation for competency. This program will run a full day of theory (six hours) and two hours per participant for a practical demonstration. Participants must demonstrate a proper pre-use inspection and proficiency operating the forklift. Note: This program is developed to meet the standards outlined in the Ontario Ministry of Labour's Guidelines for Safe Operations and Maintenance of Powered Lift Trucks and the Canadian Standards Association Standard B335. According to this CSA Standard, forklift operators shall be retrained at intervals not exceeding three years.

WOR — Working at Heights

This training program is designed to meet the requirements of the new Ministry of Labour (MOL) training program standard for construction workers. It focuses on working at heights and fall protection. The program consists of a four-hour session divided into two parts: a one and a half hour basic theory review session and a two and a half hour practical equipment review session with a practicum. This program is limited to a maximum of twelve participants to ensure adequate attention and hands-on experience. Both written and practical assessments are required, and participants must achieve a score of at least 75% to pass and receive a Record of Training card (ROT).
